Love Defined: 4 ways to celebrate beyond the romantic

Love Defined: 4 ways to celebrate beyond the romantic

Love, by its very nature, is difficult to define. Philosophers and psychologists through the ages have tried to quantify what it is and what it means to us. But when all’s said and done, love can be whatever you want it to be. Whether it’s a romantic love, or the love of a friendship you have going back to your childhood, there are many types and they all mean different things to different people.

As we approach Valentine’s day, we at Couleur Nature started thinking about what defines love in our lives, and how we can make the day special - whether in a relationship or flying solo. We think the day can be whatever you want it to be, and have come up with four ways to help you ‘celebrate beyond the romantic’ with some simple Valentine’s day ideas. Enjoy!

4 ways to celebrate ‘beyond the romantic’

1. Home-cooked meal

We all know eating out at a restaurant on Valentine’s Day can be a little bit pricey, so why not stay in and cook a meal together or for yourself if you’re having a night in?

If you’re cooking as a team, make it a fun team effort by splitting cooking and preparation duties. For example, if you’re creating a delicious homemade pizza, one of you could prepare the base while the other is responsible for preparing the toppings. As well as some quality time together, you both get to share the credit (or the blame!) for the end result.

George Bernard Shaw once said: “There is no love sincerer than the love of food,” so making your own feast could be the recipe for a special night in.

To make the meal even more of an occasion, why not create a Valentine’s table setting and add a touch of class with a French linen tablecloth and napkins. The Couleur Nature range has no shortage of inspired colors, rich textures, and a stunning array of styles for all table sizes. The line exudes simplicity with flair and a burst of personality.

2. Take some time for yourself

Whether you’re spending Valentine’s on your own or with a loved one, why not take some time out and relax: book yourself in for a spa day, enjoy a relaxing massage or makeover. You could even just draw the curtains and snuggle on the sofa with a good book - whatever you feel like doing, make it all about you!

3. Love coupons

This is a wonderful idea, made all the more special by the fact that it is wholly personal to you and the recipient of your coupon. The lovely thing about love coupons is that they don’t have to be grand gestures, or revolve around gifts and money - instead, the idea is that the coupons can be ‘cashed in’ at any time by the recipient. It could be a promise to prepare dinner, to do the laundry, walk the dog or even to provide a hug on demand. The only limit is your imagination!

4. Homemade Valentine’s day card ideas

The card industry revolves around seasonal events like Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and Valentine’s. While it’s nice to receive a card that’s been bought from a store, it’s so much more meaningful to be presented with a thoughtful homemade card. When a card is handmade, it’s made from the heart, so get crafting! Write a list of all the things that mean something to you and your loved one, and try to capture them in images and words on your card. It’s sure to inspire and delight!
