Exploring Art and Cuisine at Gallifet Art Center, Aix-en-Provence
Situated in the heart of the elegant Mazarin Quarter of Aix-en-Provence, Gallifet Art Center is more than just an art gallery; it's a vibrant cultural hub where art and gastronomy blend seamlessly.
Gallifet's art is showcased in a magnificent 18th-century townhouse that has been thoughtfully restored to preserve its historical grandeur while creating a modern space for contemporary art. Nicolas Mazet invites visitors to his family’s bastide to take in different perspectives. He is convinced that, “artists are the people most capable of telling us about our times.” The center has become a focal point for art enthusiasts, known for its dedication to showcasing both emerging and established contemporary artists.
The Gallifet Art Center is renowned for its dynamic approach to art, focusing on contemporary works that challenge and inspire. Over the years, it has hosted a variety of exhibitions that explore diverse themes and mediums. The center features four exhibitions each year.
The current exhibition, “Révelation,” features English artist, Deena Hamilton

No visit to Gallifet is complete without enjoying a meal at its charming summer garden restaurant. In the shade of the 100-year-old chestnut tress of the townhouse’s courtyard, the restaurant offers a menu that reflects the seasonal bounty of Provence. Each dish is crafted to reflect the artistic spirit of Gallifet, with a focus on fresh, local ingredients and creative presentations.
Each year, a new chef is invited to ‘host’ the season. Gallifet invited Hanzhou Piao in 2021, Preston Miller in 2022 and Julie della Faille in 2023. This year, London-based chef Josh Dallaway will be taking up residence for four months.
The restaurant not only serves delicious meals but also hosts various culinary events that integrate art and food, such as themed dinners where dishes are inspired by specific artworks or exhibitions at the center. The restaurant is open from June 1 through October 1.
Gallifet also host artistic workshops, where individuals can come to learn natural dying techniques - here with indigo artist, Laëtitia Costechareyre.
Gallifet Art Center in Aix-en-Provence is a must-visit destination for anyone passionate about the intersection of art and culture. With its ever-changing exhibitions and a delightful restaurant that mirrors its artistic ethos, Gallifet offers a unique and enriching experience.
